Birth record on Irish Family History Foundation: Mary Cate Foley, bap 29 Aug 1853,
address Knox Street, Parish Kilmoremoy District Ballina, County Mayo, father Michael
Foley, mother Margaret O'Farrell, sponsors John Farrell, Mary Ann Farrell
per 30 Apr 1891 Phila Inquirer on 28 Apr 1891 Robert Foley, aged 27 yrs (1864),
funeral Thurs, from residence of brother in law Campbell Fair 1829 Cabot St., burial
New Cathedral Cemetery. So is this him? Yes. And Mary Kate must be married to
Campbell Fair
IN 1890 Phila City Directory, Campbell Fair is saddler, at 208 Madison.
1887 directory, laborer at 210 Madison (recall Margaret Foley and others at 211
Madison)
1891 directory at 1829, sadler
Also there: Frank Foley (Foley Bros). Michael R. Foley, Robert P. Foley,
1892 directory, still there, as saddler, at 1827 Cabot is Frank Foley, roofer, at 1829
Cabot is Michael R Foley; no Robert (he d 1891)
1894 directory, Campbell L Fair is at 808 N 19th, harness [maker] can't find Frank
Foley
1898 directory, he is at 2443 N 2d. harnessmaker; Frank Foley roofer is at 2741 N
Orkney
1900 directory, he is at 2846 N Orkney, saddler; Francis Foley roofer 2413 N Philip
1902 directory, he is at 2352 N Fairhill, harnessmaker; Frank H Foley roofer at 2332 N
Fairhill [this matches the address in letter shared by Allen Peppe, so this is our Frank
Foley]
1911 directory he is at 2425 Mutter, harnessmaker; Frank Foley, roofer, 1241 E
Venango [this is our Frank Foley, see below]
1914 has a Campbell Fair, grocer, 537 Glenwood Ave. His son? Prob not him
In 1880 census, he is in Phila, single, b 1862 in Ireland, a saddler. Address: 147 N 9th
St!!! (the Foleys are at 207 N 9th in the same census) he is nephew of Syria Lenehan,
30, milliner, b Pa, single, Syria is sister of Eliza Fair, 40, md, milliner, and there also is
Bella, 20, niece of Syria, dress maker, Leillie, 17, another niece,
milliner, William, 14, and Wesley, 12, nephews. all b Ireland exc Syria (whose parents
b Ireland). In the Ballina Registration District, there is a Wesley Fair b 1868 (but it
might not be him b/c there's also a marriage record).
15 Dec 1900 obit for a Kate Fair, d 14 Dec 1900, wife of Campbell Fair, funeral from
residence of Undertaker (L. Myers No 418 W Cumberland St), solemn high mass St.
Edwards, inter. Holy Cross.
Phila Death Recs cause phthisis (consumption), addr 2047 N 3rd St., died at St.
Mary's Hospital
So is Kate the sister of Robert? Is she the K in Mary K? Campbell the saddler is b
1862, so is 7 yrs younger. Hmm. But they keep showing up on the same street as the
Foleys: 9th, then Madison, then Cabot. There is an IGI record for the marriage of
Campbell Fair to a Kate Taley 3 Feb 1884 in Phila, she b Ireland. So how is Robert
Foley a brother in law? Is HE married to one of Campbell's sisters?
Is TALEY a misread of bad handwriting for FOLEY?
Also, obit Phila Inquirer 3 May 1907, Fair, on May 1, 1907, Mary C., wife of Campbell
Fair, aged 33 yrs. (1874) funeral from residence of Mrs Bella Morrison 2241 N Hope St.
High mass, Church of Visitation. Interment Holy Cross. My guess is that she is second
wife, not a Foley.
Bella Morrison prob is the Bella on the 1880 census. There is a 1902 marr of Campbell
L. Fair and Mary C Brady in Phil marr lic on ancestry.
And on Phila Births on famsearch, Campbell and Mary had a son Patrick b 20 Jun
1903. Also a "Joseph Cyral Fair" b 19 Mar 1905 to Campbell P. [note, not L] Fair and
Mary G [surely a C] Brady familysearchlabs: 21 Apr 1857 Ballina, Mayo, Patrick Fair,
son of Campbell Fair md. Eliza Lenahan, dtr of John Lenahan. The father, Campbell
Fair, prob is the Campbell Fair who d 1871 Ballina, age 80, per Irish Death Reg Recs
on ancestry
Well, in the Delaware Marr Records on ancestry, is this: Feb 27, 1911 Campbell Fair,
46 (s b 1865), b Ireland, a saddler from Phila, married Elizabeth Shilladay, 46, b
Ireland, from Phila, he is son of Patrick C. Fair and Elizabeth Lenahan, and she is dtr
of James Wilson and Margaret Anderson. So clearly a 2d marr for her, and most likely
for him
Oliver Bair rec on ancestry show an invoice to Mrs. Elizabeth Fair, 5922 N 12th St, for
funeral of Campbell Fair, invoice 28 Feb 1931 Must be his third wife.
On 26 Nov 1894 Campbell and Kate Fair arrive from Queenstown on Lucania
(must have been visiting)
Irish Fam Hist Fdn, when do search in Mayo for Lenehans with father John (recall m of
Eliza to Campbell Fair), get index of Richard, 1840, Sarah 1842, Mary 1845, Thomas
1838, Isaac 1847, Joseph 1850, William 1830, Jane 1834. No Eliza!
IrishGenealogy Fdn: Campbell Fair, bap/born 9 Aug 1861 Kilmoreroy Parish, Co Mayo,
Church of Ireland, father Patrick Fair, a saddler, mother Eliza Fair (remember there is
IGI record of Patrick Fair m Eliza Lenahan 21 Apr 1857), sponsors not known.
Also from IGI:
Marian Fair, b 28 Dec 1864 Ballina District, Mayo, dtr of Patrick Fair and Elizabeth
Lenahan
Wesley Fair, b 17 Aug 1868 Ballina District, Mayo, son of Patrick Fair and Elizabeth
Lenehan

John Fair b c 1806 Ballina, md Maria Wilson, 2 Jul 1830 St Peters, Dublin, dtr o
Thomas Wilson, she b Dublin
Rev Campbell Fair b 1840 Carrown Ballina, Mayo, died 1902 in Nebraska
ALSO many children of other families in Co Mayo named Fair
from familysearchlabs: Wesley Fair, b 17 Aug 1868, Ballina District, son of Patrick Fair
and Elizabeth Lenehan
On 24 Nov 1876, on the Italy, arrived Eliza Fair, 40 (1836), "wife" (though preceding
person is a different family), Lillie 12 (1864), Thomas 10 (1866) [doesn't fit well with
other info, yet note Lillie's name and age does]
genealogybank: 14 Apr 1891 Phila Inquirer "FAIR, on the 10th inst, Elizabeth Fair,
aged 55 years. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend
the funeral services, on Tuesday at 2 o'clock, at her late residence, 215 North
Twelfth Street. Interment private" This must be Campbell Fair's mother, as age puts
birth year at 1836.
from familysearchlabs Phila death certif: Eliz. Fair, d 10 Apr 1891, Phila, age 57, b
1834 Ireland, married, 215 N 12th St, Northwood Cemetery
1900 census has Kate Fair, b Nov 1862 Ireland, arr 1877 [that's when George Henry
arrived], no occ, married, married for 15 years (ties in with 1884 date for Campbell
Fair's marriage), no children, boarder [NOT listed as sister] with family of Frank Foley b
Aug 1871, b Ireland, parents b Ireland, arr 1878, tin roofer, Bridget b Aug 1865
Ireland, md 8 yrs, arr 1884, 4 ch, 2 alive, son Frank b Dec 1893 Pa, son James b
Oct 1894, Pa, sister in law Ellen Dougherty UNM b Feb 1870 Ireland, boarder Mary
Dougherty WIDOW b Apr 1840, md 35 yrs 1 ch alive all at 2413 Phillip St, 19th Ward
(same ward as 2332 Fairhill St). Too much of an age difference and yet a connection
to Ballina and to someone named Robert Foley who died in 1891, lived at Cabot St.
Cousins? Children of yet another child of Michael/Margaret? Not unless the ones for
which we have birth records died young and were "replaced" by others for whom there
is no record. Hmm. But that can't be because the 1871 census has Robert and Francis
b 1857 and 1859.
Naturalization petition of Campbell Fair, 15 Sep 1888, age 27 yrs (b 1860/1) resid 403
W Cumberland St., affidavit from George H Foley, boilerplate about being well
acquainted, resid 2617 Columbia Ave, only immigr record that fits birth, with arrival
before 1888: May 10 1880, on the Helvetia, Campbell Fair, age 18 (b 1861), laborer,
coming from England
There is a Campbell Fair b 1791, d 1871 in Ballina. And one b 1840, d 1868 in the
Ballinrobe district in Ireland (per Griffith's Valuation)
Also, from one of the letters shared by Allen Peppe, Kate definitely had a husband.
Pa and NJ Church and Town Rec on ancestry, she is bur Holy Cross, name is Catie in
index and Katie in register, section 13-13-74, grave 4, age 34 (but she's older than
that).
