Obituary, The Medina County Gazette, June 19, 1914, p. 8: James Fitch Pritchard -
James Fitch Pritchard, a highly esteemed resident of Medina, who had been in failing
health the past year, departed this life June 4, 1914, at his home in Cleveland, age 71
years and 7 days. He was the youngest son of Joseph Garrett and Maria Fitch
Pritchard and was born May 28, 1843 in Medina Township, on the farm where he
spent his entire life with the exception of the last year. In March 1881, he was married
to Elizabeth Maule of Granger, Ohio. To this union were born four children; James M.,
Garrett E., Joseph H. and E. Adelaide. Mr. Pritchard was a man possessed of many
characteristics. He will be remembered for his marked amiability and kindliness of
heart augmented by his ever cheerful and jovial dispositin. His activity and industry
were tireless. Not only his family but a wide circle of friends mourn the death of one
who was dutiful, affectionate, loving son, husband and father.

Served: Ohio Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 29 February 1864 at the age of
18. Enlisted in Company F, 33rd Infantry Regiment Ohio on 29 Feb 1864. Mustered Out
Company F, 33rd Infantry Regiment Ohio on 12 Jul 1865 at Louisville, KY. The Thirty-
Third Ohio Infantry joined Gen. Sherman's forces on the Atlanta campaign,
participating in the battles of Resaca, Cassville, Kennesaw mountain, Peachtree
creek, and Jonesboro. The aggregate number of officers and men killed and wounded
in this campaign was about 170. The 33d followed Hood as far as Villanow, Ga., in his
mad movement toward Nashville, after which it accompanied Sherman in his march to
the sea and the campaign through the Carolinas. At Bentonville, N. C., it suffered
severely, paying there its last tribute to the cause of the Union. It then made the
triumphant march through the Confederate capital to Washington, where it participated
in the grand review; was then taken to Louisville, Ky., and mustered out on July 12,
1865.
