Per above Marriage version, Mary Ann Caroline married Mills Judson 5 Jan 1831 in 
NYC by Rev Dr Milner

per directories, was a grocer, by 1835 a merchant
per History of the Church of Zion and St Timothy of New York 1797-1894, he was a 
warden from 1810 to 1817, treasurer 1810 to 1818, one of the original trustees of this 
church, set up by younger members of another church whose minister preached only in 
German (he was the son in law of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg) He was very active in 
the church, was also secretary. A notice in the 8 Jul 1797 Greenleaf's NY Journal 
signed by him on behalf of trustees refers to the church as the English Lutheran 
Church.

Per "The Old Merchants of New York City" p 388, he "was one of the wealthiest and 
most prosperous grocers in the city, nearly ruined by the peace [after the War of 
1812]. He had speculated without limit in coffee, sugar, teas, etc. He kept at 423 
Pearl, corner of Rose, from about 1800. That same man lived in the house as late as 
1837, but he had previously removed his store to 227 Front, where he did a grocery 
business, under the firm of Lewis Hartman & Son, as late as 1835." Also, p c322, "The 
wife of Lewis Hartment died last week. Her husband was a well-known grocer of the 
city for many years, and did an enormous business in the last war."

LEWIS HARTMAN, will dated 1/29/1839, proved 11/16/1839.
Before we get to the will bequests themselves, we have the heirs that were 
notified:  Mary P. Hartman, widow; Louisa M. TODD, Martha M. WEYMAN, Cornelia C. 
Hartman, Eliza EMBREE and George Hartman - as next of kin/heirs at law.  
JAMES L. TODD applied to court with will and was told to attend probate 11/16/1839 
"at 10 o'clock". 

First, no "extra parade" or unecessary expense to be incurred for his 
funeral. 

He then notes since his son, George, and son-in-law, EFFINGHAM EMBREE, 
deceased husband of his daughter, ELIZA, were indebted to him for "money advanced 
and debts paid" in his lifetime, they are excluded from equal shares of his 
estate in "common justice" to his other children.  He gives them $100 each IF the 
proceeds from his estate equal $6,000 or more and NOT OTHERWISE.  So no cash 
if estate worth less than $6,000.
  (Note:  here we see that the Eliza Embree is his daughter)

He then makes very specific bequests to his family as follows:
Son George gets silver spectacles or equal value of a new pair if they 
are  in poor condition at time of his death.
Son-in-law, James L. Todd, merchant, gets his "fowling gun and    apparatus" 
and a gold watch chain.
Son-in-law, Edmund Weyman, merchant, gets gold watch chain and 
     Boxwood flute.
Friend, Mills Judson, merchant, gets gold sleeve buttons (cufflinks?)
 (turns out Mills Judson married Lewis' daughter, Mary Ann Caroline, who died 
at age 23 in 1831; apparently he remained friends with Lewis but was really 
the son-in-law of his deceased daughter)
Friend and Counsellor, Charles Judson, Esq., gets gold spectacles
Wife, Mary, gets all of his wearing apparel to do with what she wishes but  
she is to give a complete suit to their son, George, from it.
     Mary also gets all household and kitchen furniture but after her death, 
this is to be disposed of at public or private sale and the proceeds from it 
divided among the children, Cornelia, Louisa M. Todd and Martha M. Weyman, or 
their children if deceased.  Executors are to invest the proceeds in city or 
state stock for this purpose. 
     Mary also gets the "2-story brick front house and lot" at 52 Rose Street 
adjoining the corner of Pearl Street on the rear "laid down on map of my 
estate".  Upon Mary's death, executors should dispose of it and proceeds be 
divided equally to Cornelia, Louisa M. Todd and Martha M. Weyman, or their children 
equally if deceased.

The remainder of real and personal estate is to be sold to pay any debts owed 
and the surplus, if any, divided among his three children, Cornelia, Louisa 
M. Todd and Martha M. Weyman.
Appoints executors:  James L. Todd, son-in-law, and friend, Mills Judson.
Witnesses:  Peter G. Barker, William Strong and Edward S. Judson, all of New 
York City.

Also on 11/16/1839 - James L. Todd proves that he took the will from a desk 
holding valuable papers and brought it in for probate.  Thought that was a 
something interesting; have never seen something that specific in a will yet.
