Birth: 28 Jan 1771 Garzano, Caserta, Italy
Christening: 29 Jan 1771 Parish of San Pietro, Garzano, Caserta, Italy
Death: 30 Mar 1844 Tuoro, Caserta, Italy
Notes
There is a Carlo Zampella, born in Garzano, who at the age of 71, on 10 Nov 1842, in
Caserta, married Lucia Melone (age 66). He would have been born in 1771. Son of
Bartolomeo Zampella and Catarina Varrone. [this is him, this was his second marriage]
See note under Maria about the age of her siblings suggesting that Carlo was born
sooner than 1780.
On Maria's birth certificate he gives his age as trentaquattro (34) which means he is
born 1811 minus 34 = 1776. Hmmm. Profession agricolona, living in Garzano. On her
marriage certificate he and his wife list occupations as peasant. Living in Garzano
There also is a Bartolomeo Zampella, son of Carlo Zampella and Carmina Sacco, md 1
May 1823, Tuoro, Caserta, Italy, age 24 (b 1799) to Marianna Santacroce age 26.
Probably named after grandfather. From familysearch.org (familysearchlabs tells us
Marianna is dtr of Vincenzo Santacroce and Maria Rosa Fusaro)
Another record shows him md 14 Aug 1819, age 20 to Vincenza Santacroce, both age
20. (and per familysearchlabs she is dtr of Vincenzo Santacroce and Maria Rosa
Fusaro)
familysearchlabs also gives: Alessandro Zampella b 1801 son of Carlo Zampella and
Carmina Sacco, md 20 Jun 1824 Casolla, Caserta, Teresa Vanore, b 1798, dtr of
Domenico Vanore and Maria Arcangela Vaiuso.
and: Francesco Stefano Santacroce b 1805 son of Vincenzo Santacroce and Maria
Rosa Fusaro, md 12 Dec 1826 Tuoro, Caserta, Lucia Zampella, dtr of Carlo Zampella
and Carmina Sacco
familysearchlabs: Lucia Zampella b 1804 md 12 Dec 1826 Tuoro, Caserta, Francesco
Stefano Santacroce, b 1805 son of Vincenzo Santacroce and Maria Rosa Fusaro
Alessandro Zampella b 1801 md 20 Jun 1824 Casolla, Caserta, Teresa Vanore, dtr of

"Baptismal Record of Carlo Antonio Pietro Zampella
[Number] 99. 29 January 1771…In the Parish of San Pietro in Garzano, jurisdiction of
Caserta, baptized an infant born the previous night [?, ink blot] to Bartolomeo
Zampella, son of the deceased Carlo [Zampella], and Caterina Varrone, residents of
this village, to whom they gave the name Carlo Antonio Pietro. Presented at the
baptismal font by Margarita Natale, midwife in this same village…[see Attachment

COMMENTS: The paternal grandfather’s name is given and provides evidence that he
was already deceased in January 1771. The midwife was serving as temporary
godmother and the real godparents would be assigned at a later date. Carlo was likely
this couple’s first-born child, as he appears to be named for the paternal
grandfather, in accordance with Italian naming customs.
