EARLDOM OF BUCKINGHAM (II) 1102 to 1164

Walter [GIFFARD), Earl of Buckingham, though known as Earl Giffard, also Lord of 
Longueville in Normandy, son and heir, a minor at his father's death. He fought at the 
battle of Brenneville in Normandy in 1119, and is said by some (but probably 
erroneously) to have been Chief Marshal of the King's Court. He m. Ermengarde, with 
whom he was founder of, or benefactor to, the Abbey of Notley, Bucks. He dsp., 
1164, and was buried there. [Complete Peerage II:387]

Walter [GIFFARD), Earl of Buckingham, though known as Earl Giffard, also Lord of 
Longueville in Normandy, son and heir, a minor at his father's death. Is Styled Marshal 
of England, was one of three Earls who supported Henry I in his quarrel with his 
brother Robert, was present at the battle of Brenneville in 1119, and was dead in 
1165, his earldom becoming extinct, although there is some evidence that he left a 
son William, who died soon after his father and before his investure as earl.
