Rainsford Ormond Brownell
Born at Liverpool, England, February 8, 1882, Rainsford Ormond Brownell has been a
resident of Nebraska for the past forty years. He is the son of William Taylor and Ida
(Fowler) Brownell, the former a native of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. William
Taylor Brownell was a sea captain of Scotch-Irish descent, who died at Burwell,
Nebraska, in 1903. His wife, Ida, was born in Nova Scotia of French and English
extraction.
Mr. Brownell attended Fremont High School, the Fremont Normal College, and was
graduated in 1901. He was also a student at the University of Nebraska. At the
university he was made a member of Acacia Fraternity.
His marriage to Edith Wright was solemnized at Schuyler, where Mrs. Brownell was
born, August 30, 1886. She is of English descent. There is one child, Winifred, born
July 10, 1913.
For some years Mr. Brownell was active in educational work, three years as a teacher
in country school, three years as superintendent of school at Alexandria, four years as
principal of the Schuyler High School, and four months as superintendent of the
Hooper Schools. He is at the present time cashier and director of the Schuyler State
Bank, and the Schuyler Savings Bank, and from 1926-29 was a member of the
Guarantee Fund Commission.
Mr. Brownell is a Republican. While at the university he was a member of the cadets,
with ranks from private, Company A, to sergeant; and during the World War was a
member of the Home Guard. He is an Episcopalian, a member of the Knights of
Pythias, the Masons and the Odd Fellows, and is also a member of the Chamber of
Commerce. His hobby is gardening. Residence: Schuyler.
