to remain in the Olearie grove (where the Favale is commonly called) to guard the
harvest already ripe: the Father himself whose name was Anthony and the Mother
whose name was Carmelia Salerno, because Sunday was observed, in this Parish of
Sant'Annunziato: they gathered in the evening, to be present at the Holy Mysteries, as
was their custom: the day was tiring, and when that was completed, on their way
back: to the grove, they found the aforementioned Girl debauched and destined to die
on her last day, with a halter tied to her throat; seeing which wound, the parents, in
tears, the following day, carried her under their own shoulders to this Village of San
Biagio, and reported the case to the local Governor, who knew that the atrocities
were committed, and who were: suspects of the crime in doubt, finally the
aforementioned Corpusculum was buried gratuitously * * * no investigation of the crime
was made by the Royal Tribunal, nor a court appointed because they were poor.")
