the Abbadid dynasty arose in Seville in the 11th century following the downfall of the
caliphate of Cordoba. In 1023 Abu al-Qasim Muhammad ibn'Abbad declared Seville
independent. his son Abu 'Amr' Abbad, known as al-Mu'tadid enlarged his territory by
annexing the kingdoms of Mertola, Niebla, Huelva, Saltes, Silves and Santa Maria de
Algarve. A poet, patron of poet, but ruthless an cruel. Suffocated Berber chiefs of
southern Andalusia and seized their kingdoms of Arcos, Moron and Ronda. His
grandson took Cordoba. The dynasty was weakened in wars with Alfonso VI, and his
grandson was exiled to Morocco, leading to the ascendancy of the Almoravid dynasty.
