BARONY OF POYNINGS

SIR RICHARD DE POYNINGS, son and heir apparent, was a knight by 1423, when he 
represented Sussex in Parliament. He married, 1stly, Joan, daughter of Henry SEAMER 
(j). He married, 2ndly, circa 1423, Eleanor, widow of Sir John DE ARUNDEL, de jure 
LORD MAUTRAVERS, and by the admission of 1433 EARL OF ARUNDEL (died 21 
April 1421), and daughter of Sir John BERKELEY, of Beverstone, co. Gloucester, by 
his 1st wife, Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir John BETTESHORNE, of Betteshorne 
in Sopley, Hants. In October 1428 he was taking musters near Orleans, and was killed 
near there, 10 June 1429. His widow married, before 8 May 1439, Walter 
(HUNGERFORD), LORD HUNGERFORD (died 9 August 1449). She died 1 August

(j) She d. a virgin in 1420, and was buried in the church of St. Helen, Bishopsgate.
