John IV Lestrange; may have been a supporter of Simon de Montfort in his disputes 
with Henry III; was at any rate instructed by the King to surrender his possession of 
Montgomery Castle 1261 and 1263, it having been ordered to be made over to him 
1260; a royal order for its restoration to him (John IV Lestrange) was also made 1265, 
suggesting that any support by him for Simon de Montfort was now ended; married 
Joan (predeceased her husband), daughter of Roger de Somery by Nichole, daughter 
and coheir of William de Aubigny, Earl of Arundel, and died by 26 Feb 1275/6.

JOHN LESTRANGE IV, 1st son and heir. In 1255 he had quittance of the common 
summons for Sussex, and in 1256 with Roger and his brother Herbert was taken and 
imprisoned at Shrewsbury for a death. In 1257 he had protection, as staying at 
Chester and on the Welsh marches. In 1260 it was ordered that the castle of 
Montgomery should be delivered to him, and again in 1265. On 24 December 1262 he 
was summoned to be at Hereford with horses and arms.

He married Joan, daughter of Roger DE SOMERY, by Nichole, daughter and coheir of 
William (DE AUBIGNY), EARL OF ARUNDEL, by Mabel, sister and heir of Ranulph, 
EARL OF CHESTER. He died on or before 26 February 1275/6, probably by drowning,
