BARONY OF LUTEREL (,2) not recognized as a Baron

SIR GEOFFREY LUTTRELL, de jure, according to modern doctrine, LORD LUTTRELL, 
son and heir, was born in 1276. He was summoned for Military Service from July 1297 
to 21 March 1319, and served in Scotland under the King in 1300 and 1303, and 
under the Earl of Pembroke in 1306. Neither he nor his successors were summoned to 
Parliament. In 1324 he was one of the 40 knights in the parts of Kesteven returned by 
the sheriff upon a writ to summon knights in every shire to repair to Westminster, to 
confer, &c., with the prelates, earls, barons and peers. In December 1325 he was 
commissioner of array in Kesteven, but a deputy was named, January 1326, owing to 
hi's ill health.

He married Agnes, daughter of Sir Richard Sutton, of Warsop and Sutton-on-Trent, 
Notts. She died 12 June 1340 (d). He died 23 May 1345, and was buried at Irnham (e).

(d) In 1318, after she had born him several children, the manor of Irnham was settled 
upon him and her for their lives. Many years after this it was found that they were 
related in the third and fourth degrees of consanguinity. They were able to obtain from 
the Pope, however, through the Archbishop of York, a special despensation 
legitimizing their children. NOTE: I have not determined the relationship, obviously I 
am missing some common ancestor between them.

(e) A large canopied momunent at Irnham, elaborately carved in stone, shows the arms 
of Luttrell and Sutton. Sir Geoffrey Luttrell is chiefly to be remembered as having 
caused the preparation of the famous Luttrell Psalter, now in the British Museum. He 
and his wife figure in two of the illuminations with other members of his household.
