NOTE: I have speculatively placed Hugh as a younger son of Ralph of Empingham. 
No sources indicate any earlier Normanvilles in Northumberland or Yorkshire, so Hugh 
may have been a son of the main Normanville line at this point.

NOTE: I got the next few generations of Hugh's descent from Danny Heagren, world 
connect db=dheagren, who was citing as the basis of his information: "SORLEY'S 
PEDIGREES (GS NUMBER Q940 D2T) P.15, 40;", which indicates that Hugh was of 
Thribergh, but the following 2 items from A2A indicate he was also of Stanfordham in 
Northumberland:

Hugh de Normanvill and Alina his wife grant to Heicarwus and his heirs all the land 
that Roger Scot held in Stanfordham to hold of them in fee and inheritance freely by 
all services and customs rendering annually to them and their heirs 2 shillings that if 
12 pence at Pentecost and 12 pence at St. Martin. And they grant to him in addition 
to the said fee one bovate of land in their demesne in Stanfordham that is 15 acres of 
land with pasture and other easements pertaining to the said township To hold as 
above rendering annually one pound of cumin at the Feast of St. Cuthbert in 
September. Witnessed by Edward de Stanfordham, Nicholas de Heddun, Robert de 
Fenwic, Richard son of Nicholas, Roger de Berketot, William de Dalton, Robert his 
son, Laurence son of Raun de Stoketon, Walter de Mesebite, Cospatrick de Nesbite, 
Adam his son, and many other clerics and laity
N.B. Hugh de Normanvill, husband of Alina, died before 1221 - see History of 
Northumberland Vol. XII p. 305

a son or nephew of the Hugh above, or whether Hugh himself retired to the priesthood 
in 1221 (rather than having died as indicated above):

Contents: 
By Walter, bishop of Carlisle, confirming in perpetuity the grant by Hugh, late bishop of 
Carlisle, to the cistercian monastery of Durham of the tithes of lands and granges at 
Straton Beach (lite) in the parish of Werkewrth (Warkworth, Northumberland) for 40 
years giving 6 marks twice yearly to the church at Werkewrth and 6 marks of silver 
annually to the bishops of Carlisle.
At the Nativity of St. Mary the Virgin 1228
Witnesses: Master A. de Len, Archdeacon of Carlisle; Hugh de Normanvil, rector of 
Stanfordham; Master Robert de Sterint; Master Herebertus; Henry clerk of... (blank).
