On the origin of the Pomeroy family in Normandy (and "still living" date for Henry):

This all points strongly to La Pommeraye (Calvados) as the place in question, but the
matter is put beyond doubt by a notification of Henry bishop of Bayeux, dated 1167,
that Henry de la Pommeraye had in his presence confirmed the gifts of his father
Joscelin to the abbey of Le Val-Notre-Dame, and had renounced all rights over the
churches of Saint-Omer, Benoeil, Angoville, Le Bo, Cosseville, Saint-Clair, La
Pommeraye and Placy; and all these places lie within 8 kil. of La Pommeraye
(Calvados). [The Origins of Some Anglo-Norman Families]

A little added info:
Henry de Pomeray (sic), second son of Joel (sic), who m. a Natural daughter of King
Henry I. gave the whole Village of Tale, in the Parish of Peh(or b)embury in the County
of Devon, to the Abby of Ford, reserving several secular services, and a pair of gilt
spurs to be paid yearly. [Ref: The Genealogical History of the Noble House of
Courtenay, part III, book 1 p128] Note: "natural" is a euphamism for illegitimate. Also
"Joel" appears to be an anglicization of "Joscelin"... Curt

Re: ancestry of his wife Rohese
I see you've taken the plunge re: the evidence that, were she a dau of Henry I, her
dau as a grandchild of Henry I, couldn't marry her 1st cousin (another grandchild) of
Henry I (or if so, records of papal dispensation would have been discovered). I tend to
agree, but there has to be a major reason that some of the major sources still list her
as a dau of Henry. In my database, I cheat & list 2 wives of Henry de la Pomeroy; one
a dau of Henry I & the other a dau of Herbert fitzHerbert, both by Sybil (Lucy) de
Corbet (with a note explaining the problem with Rohese's ancestry).

Curt
