Paul Michael Rodia of Woodbury, Connecticut, passed away on Sept. 1, 2019, at 
home surrounded by family and dear friends.  Just three months prior, Paul was the life 
of the party at his 80th birthday celebration when he sported his signature dance 
moves and his gift for impromptu speeches that conveyed just how humbled and 
honored he was. His love of life and dedication to sports and fitness kept him strong 
until the end when he lost his valiant fight to cancer.

Paul was an exceptional athlete his entire life.  He exceled at tennis and was a 
ranked player in New England.  As a competitive golfer, he won countless trophies 
and awards.  For Paul, sports were also about friendships and new challenges.  He 
was active wherever he was. Whatever the season, he found a way to be out in 
nature and moving.  His pursuits included wind surfing, paddleball, hiking, skiing, 
basketball, softball, soccer, swimming, skating, refereeing ice hockey referee and 
most recently pickle ball. 

A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Paul was born May 9, 1939, in Waterbury and 
raised in Watertown. His lifetime of achievements began with graduating from Hoosac 
High School where he was co-captain of the soccer and baseball teams.  He attended 
Springfield College where he majored in physical education.  He began his 
professional life as a stockbroker. After a career of entrepreneurial pursuits in the 
athletic apparel industry, he joined Norman Drubner to create Drubner Industrials 
commercial real estate.  Paul served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard and was 
on the board of the Waterbury Red Cross. 

Family and friends filled Paul’s long and rich life.  He is survived by his wife of 37 
years, Mary Louise Rodia; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Cecile Rodia; four 
children, Christine Rodia, Laurie Rodia, Paul Michael Rodia Jr. and Sarah Rodia; 
daughter-in-law, Jennifer Rodia; three grandchildren, Lukas Rodia, Chloe Paczkoski  
and Isabella Noujaim; and cousin David May. He was preceded in death by his 
parents, Angelo and Helene Rodia, and his first wife, Toni Castle.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Hickcox Funeral 
Home, 195 Main Street Watertown .  A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the 
Evergreen Cemetery Chapel 183 North Street Watertown.  For additional information or
