The master Alfredo D ' Ascoli
He was born in Serino on October 28, 1895. He undertook musical studies under the
guidance of his uncle musician and then of master Montebello. - year-old won, among
twenty competitors, the free place of convictor at the San Pietro a Maiella
Conservatory in Naples, at which he completed his studies obtaining, at nineteen
years old, the Diploma of Magisterio Ramo Trumpet, the Normal Piano License, and
the Diploma in Instrumentation and Composition for Band.
During World War I, after conducting several Military Bands, he received from the
Marshal of Italy Pietro Badoglio the prestigious task of forming and conducting the
great Symphony Orchestra of the Supreme Command, composed of the same elements
of the III Armata, conducted by Arturo Toscanini. After the armistice he directed the
Municipal Banda di Serino for six years, which with his direction had great resonance.
Afterwards he was called to direct the Ascoli Satriano, Agerola and Montemiletto
Bands. For competition he won, in 1927, the post of Master Director of the Music
School and the Municipal Bandistic Concert of Tolfa (RM), which he kept for twenty
years, leaving a great memory in the Lazio town.
In 1948 he moved to the Complex of Gioia Samnitica; in 1949, welcoming the
invitation of Senator Bacucchi, he took the direction of the nascent Classic Bandistic
Concert Tito Schipa - Cittą di Lecce and immediately made it a great band, which led,
continuously, until 1974, the year in which, almost eighty-year-old, he ended his
brilliant directorial career. On March 22, 1952, Honoris was awarded the title of ''
Academic Master of the World Academy of Professional Artists ".
Equipped with a very fine ear, he could perceive, even remotely, the slightest
disconnection. It is recalled that once, while discussing with some friends, he
interrupted the speech and, directing the index towards the stage, on which a band
performed the Sicilian Vespers symphony, he said: there is a saxophone playing with a
falling tone.
Elegant, jovial, inclusive and human poise, rich in artistic qualities, profound
connoisseur of the score, scrupulous conductor, valiant transcriptor, he was a
composer of chamber and piano music, as well as symphonic gears, some of which are
still performed by the best National bandistic complexes.
Maestro D ' Ascoli was one of the first to introduce symphonic music into the band
repertoire. He died in Lecce on 10 January 1975, where he left the precious and rich
musical repertoire to the Orami Banda orami dearest to him, the delicious one of
Lecce, with which he divided for a quarter of a century the most exciting successes
and that now is named after her happy memory.
Grand Concert Schipa D ' Ascoli City of Lecce

Mayor On. Nicola Nacucchi, was born then called the city band. On the conductorial
podium, Maestro Silvestri was first called and later to his departure, '' our '' Alfredo D '
Ascoli who inherited the band's guide by directing it for twenty years. Upon its
disappearance, the band previously named after a great Lecce musician Tito Schipa,
was called Schipa-D ' Ascoli, as it is still recognized and identified today.

Ascoli, always recognized as the only great band of Lecce, have alternated masters of
