At sunrise on April 6, 2006, Claire Ella Riley passed into paradise with her family at her 
side. She was preceded in death by her husband William, the love of her life, who 
died in 1986. Claire was born on August 29, 1923, in Merchantville, New Jersey, and 
lived in San Diego since 1970. She was survived by sons Michael and Patrick, both of 
Henderson, Nevada; Kevin and his wife Anne of San Diego; grandchildren Kevin 
Patrick, Keenan and Kira; brother Jim Hogan of Merchantville, sister Mary Ellen 
Stewart of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and many extended family members and friends. 
Claire was a longtime member and Eucharistic Minister in St. Rose of Lima Catholic 
Church in Chula Vista, and Ascension Parish in Tierrasanta. She was a member of the 
St. Rose Altar Society and a life member and past president of Scripps Memorial 
Hospital Auxiliary. She loved her family, lived by her faith, cherished all things Irish 
(especially Notre Dame football), honored her country and her husband's long tenure 
in the US Navy, and committed her life to the service of others. A memorial mass will 
be celebrated Tuesday, April 18 at 10 a.m. at Ascension Catholic Church in 
Tierrasanta. She will be laid to rest with Bill at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Bonita, CA. 
The family requests donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to the American Diabetes
