Carl Hjalmar Olson died Feb. 1, 2003, at his home in Maple Valley. He was 83. 

 Born March 9, 1919, in Reeder, N.D., he served in the Army during World War II and 
received an honorable mention from the French government for service in the Battle of 
Normandy in 1945, and several other service medals. He lived in Maple Valley for 38 
years. 

 Mr. Olson retired in 1981 as a self-employed farmer and electrician. He enjoyed 
farming, gardening and dancing. 

 He was preceded in death by two wives, Joyce Olson on July 29, 1965, and Dorothy 
Olson in September 1990; and daughter Mary Ann Olson on Sept. 20, 1968. He is 
survived by his sons, Dan Olson and Mark Olson, both of Maple Valley, and John 
Olson of Auburn; stepsons Dennis West of Maple Valley and Pat Olson of Hot Springs, 
S.D.; stepdaughters Sharon DeVaney of Auburn and Georgine Gall of Plymouth, Minn.; 
brother Swen Olson of Rapid City, S.D.; sisters Elma Dannenfelzer of Hettinger, N.D., 
and Anna Keller of New England, N.D.; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. 

 A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hobart Maple Valley 
Cemetery. 

 Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity. 

 Arrangements are by Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home.
