Walter G. Wilja

A private service will be held for Walter G. Wilja, who died Aug. 29, 1998, at age 95. 
Mr. Wilja was born Feb. 19, 1903, in Rock Springs, Wyo. He worked in coal mines 
there before moving to Brush Prairie, Wash., in 1912. He worked in plywood mills and 
logging as a young man, then for the Clark County Road Department for about 30 
years before retiring. His wife, Myrtle, died in 1958. 
Survivors include his son, Michael of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandchildren; and six 
great-grandchildren. 
Private interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver. The 
family suggests remembrances to Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. 
Arrangements are by Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver.

Walter G. Wilja

There will be a private service for Walter G. Wilja, 95, who died Saturday, Aug. 29, 
1998, in Battle Ground.

He retired from the Clark County Road Department.

Mr. Wilja, born Feb. 19, 1903, in Rock Springs, Wyo., lived in Clark County since 
1912.

He worked in the coal mines as a youngster and then moved to this area to work in 
the logging industry. He was with the road department for 30 years before he retired. 

Mr. Wilja was an avid supporter of girls softball. 

His wife, Myrtie, died in 1958.

Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Michael of Vancouver; two grandchildren; and six great-
grandchildren.
