Perley's book on Salem vol 2 p 133
www.brazoriaroots.com explains he was a seaman on the bark Repaire of Salem, 
owned by Mr. Philip English and commanded by Samuel Flint, on a voyage from Bilbao 
to New England by way of Madiera, when they were captured by a French ship from 
St. John, 45 degrees west of Cape Finisterre, and carried as prisoners to Placentia in 
Newfoundland. His captivity was of short duration as he testified to the facts in Salem 
the following October 30.
