THROCKMORTON Henry
Birth: 1575 Fulbrook, Hogshaw, Buckinghamshire, England
Notes
25 Jul 1616: Letter from Henry Throgmorton describes arrival of King of Denmark at
Court. Unquestionably he was familiar with Patrick Maule.
Had a brother George, who had a daughter Jane, who married Thomas Lee, high
sheriff of Buckinghamshire.
In The History and Antiquities of the County of Buckinghamshire vol 1, by George
Lipscomb, he is shown as son of Sir George Throckmorton, Knight of Fulbrook, d
1612, bur 1 Sep at Hogshaw, called the elder (per Quainton Regist), and Mary, dau of
John Bruges, 1st Lord Chaundos. This George is son of Sir George Throckmorton,
Knight of Coughton, son of SIr Robert Throckmorton d 1458 [typo? 1558?], bur at
Coughton, and Katharine, d 1571, daughter of Sir Nicholas Vaux ane Elizabeth dtr of
Henry Lord Fitz-Hugh.
Years ago I concluded, for some reason, that this was wrong. Why? This pedigree
shows Susanna as Susan with the chr date that I have for her, and it shows that
Henry had a brother George with a dtr Jane who md Thomas Lee.
Fulbrook came into the family, it seems, from Katharine Vaux
The book describes how Sir George Throckmorton, eldest son of Sir Robert
Throckmorton, was sheriff of Warwick and Leicester in the 18th and 35th of Hen VIII,
"and having incurred the enmity of Thomas Lord Cromwell, who, under a pretext of his
refusal to acknowledge the King's supremacy, but in reality to gratify his own cupidity
by the possession of Sir George's estate, caused him to be imprisoned in the Tower . .
He left a numerous family, of whom Sir George Throckmorton, the eighth son, was, as
well as two of his brothers, preferred at Court by the Queen's interest, and received
some recompense for the injuries which their family had sustained by the rapacity of
Lord Cromwell. He was knighted, and married Mary Bruges, daughter of John first Lord
Chandos, by whom he had several children [that would include Henry]; but excepting
the supply of some few names of his descendants, as inserted in the accompanying
table, not without difficulty obtained, in consequence of the destruction of
monuments, registers, and papers which might have elucidated their history, no
satisfactory account is presented in regard to the Giffards, the Lees, or the
Throckmortons, as connected with Fulbrook; nor of the time or manner in which their
estate was alienated."
Per freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pillagoda/ch10-03.htm, Sir George
Throckmorton was Esquire of the Body to Henry VIII, received the manors of
Tanworth-in-Arden and Sheriff's Lench on the borders of Warwickshire and
Worcestershire and also owned Hogshaw-with-Fulbrook, inherited by his son George
who died in 1612 age 92 years (b 1520). George the elder also was Steward of
Yardley and Keeper of the Park of Clarendon, was a witness against Thomas
Cromwell. Also was Sheriff of Worcestershire, received manor of Beauchamp's Court in
Warwickshire which had belonged to Alcester priory. He married Catherine Vaux,
whose mother was the widow of Sir William Parr, grandfather of Henry's sixth queen.
Says "George, son of Sir George Throckmorton, married the daughter of Lord Chandos
named Cecily, suspected of trying to poison him -- they lived at Alne."
Alne is in Warwickshire, several miles NE of Alcester, 15 miles sw of Berkswell
Other web sites that show Henry as son of George show George as b 1547 Fulbrook d
29 Mar 1613, and give children as having brothers Hugh, Thomas, George, Raphael,
and sons Raphael, Sir George, and Henry. But this Sir George (1547 - 1613) is shown
as md to Jane Dormer and son of John Throckmorton of Wardington, Bucks and
Thomasine Derham. What a mess.
In Oxford Univ Alumni, 1500-1886, there is a Henry Throckmorton (Throgmorton), of
Bucks, arm. Magdalen College, matric 13 Oct 1598, age 16, BA 13 Dec 1602, MA 12
June 1605, and a George, of Bucks, arm. Trinity College, matric 17 Oct 1600 BA 30
June 1603. See Henry 1598 and Berry's Bucks, i. 271
Surely they are brothers, Henry b 1682, so who is he?
From the Warwickshire Visitations, it appears that the Marrow family of Berkswell is
intermarried with the Throgmortons. Hmmm. The mother of George Throgmorton who
married Katherine Vaux is Katherine Marrow, dtr of William Marrow of London.
Also shows (as do other sites) that George married Frances Shaundos and then Mary,
had 7 sons. Only names 2 (Nicholas, John). Does not rule out Henry being their son.
Aha, Katherine Marrow who married Robert Throgmorton is dtr of Sir William Marrow
Mayor of London and Katherine Rich of London. Katherine's brother William, of
Rudfeld in Warwickshire, married Joan Chadworth (dtr of John Chadworth, Mayor of
London), had son Thomas Marrow of Rudfield (who md AliceYonge), and in turn they
had Samuel Marrow of Berkeswell.
