MICHAEL, son and heir, in 1202 fined a Norwegian hawk for having a weekly market
in Crawley, Sussex. He was abroad in the King's service in the summer and autumn of
1206, and in Ireland in 1210. In February 1215/6 he was in arms against the King, but
was granted safe conduct throughout the realm in August 1217. He married, before
Trin. term 1206, Margaret, widow of John DE CAILLY, of Norfolk. He appears to have
been living at Michaelmas 1230, but was dead in 1242-43 (f). [Complete Peerage
X:657-8, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

(f) When his son was in possession of Poynings; he was probably dead in 1240, when
Thomas was defending his rights of warren in Sussex.

Note: CP in the entry for Michael's father, stated that there could be another Adam de
Poynings between Michael, b. abt. 1170 (maybe even later), and Adam, b. bef. 1126
(and maybe even earlier). Certainly the birth dates would indicate a probability; birth of
an eldest son at age 44 (or older) is not common.
