He [Thomas Bardolf] married Agnes, perhaps daughter of William DE GRANDSON,
SEIGNEUR DE GRANDSON, on the Lake of Neuchatel in Switzerland, by Blanche,
daughter of Louis DE SAVOIR, BARON DE VAUD. He died 15 December 1328, and
was buried at Shelford Priory, Notts, aged 46. His widow, who had a protection,
August 1337, as being "by birth of the parts of Almain," died 11 December 1357, at
Ruskington, co. Lincoln. [Complete Peerage I:418, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

Note: In note (d) CP I:418, in explaining that Agnes was NOT the seventh daughter of
Thomas Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, states that Agnes de Grandison married again,
but did not say to whom. William de Grandison by his 2nd wife, Sibyl de Tregoz, had a
daughter also named Agnes who married Roger de Northwode, but she was obviously
a different person, with a different date of death (4 Dec 1348). I believe this Agnes
was born in "Almain" (ie. Switzerland?), while the other Agnes was born in England.

Note: In CP XIV:64 (XIV is the volume of corrections), there is a remark that it is
doubtful that Agnes was daughter of William de Grandson by Blanche de Savoir.
Whether this means that she was probably not daughter of William or her mother
wasn't Blanche, is not clear.

The following info was supplied by Curt Hofemann, curt_hofemann AT yahoo.com, in a
post-em in response to my question about "Almain" above;

Well no, there is no "Almain" Switzerland to my knowledge nor does the word mean
Switzerland. I have never seen an explanation of what CP means here. The Almain is
a dance, quite fun actually, similar to the Schottische (think Polka). It came from the
Alemanni who were a tribe of the Suebi (Swabians) of southern Germany, Alsace & NE
Switzerland. Swabia was also known as Alemannia. Swabia/Alemania ceased to exist
as a geopolitical entity 6-700 years prior to this period so an English reference to
"Almains" in the 1300's is odd unless "Almains" is an English/Norman word for
something. Alemannic is a High German dialect of this same area still very much in use
today, in some ways quite different from the standard High German taught in schools.
The Alemanni are why the French call Germans "Allemands".

CP I:418 also says her father was "Seigneur de Grandison, on the Lake of Neuchatel
in Switzerland". This makes no sense. Seigneur is French, Grandison is English. Yes,
French is one of the offical languages of Switzerland, but he became Lord Grandison
IN ENGLAND when he was summoned to parliament 6 Feb 1298/9 to 10 Oct 1325 per
CP VI:60. Grandison is not a Schweiz/Alemannic name/place that I've ever heard.
Considering that surnames came later, maybe he was from Switzerland but when called
to parliament he was living in "Grandison" = some place in England.

Curt

Also Curt adds the following concerning the location of "Grandison"/"Grandson",
correcting the way in which I originally had it placed:

Birth: ABT 1281 in Grandison, Lake Neufchatel, Helvetia, Switzerland

Tiny nit-picks: No such place as Grandison, Switzerland. But I have found a
"Grandson" on Lac de Neuchâtel = see http://wgs5.ismap.com/cgi-
bin/geo/WGSWEBMAP.EXE?tg=new&cy=01041&dep=2206&c
t=GRANDSON&ctid=010410300024872&dp=3&t=13&m=
%5Fnis.mod&l=a&xm=500&ym=300&x

Helvetia is Latin for Switzerland, so redundant. Also, to render it in modern
nomenclature, Grandson, Lake Neufchâtel (or Lac de Neuchâtel), Canton Vaud,
Switzerland.
