ROBERT MARMION the younger, son of Robert MARMION the justice, by his 2nd
wife, Philippe. In 1215 he was ordered to give seisin of land in Hunmanby, which had
been committed to him in custody with the heir of Hugh Gernegan, to Gilbert de Gant,
if it was of the latter's fee and not held of the honour of Richmond, and to give seisin
of half a knight's fee in Tanfield to Eustace de Vescy, if it was of the latter's fee. In
1217 the Sheriff of Sussex was ordered to give him seisin of his lands in that county of
which he had been disseised during the late war. On 15 May 1218 he made a fine with
the King to pay £100 for having the custody of the castle of Tamworth and the lands
of which Robert his father had died seised, to hold until Robert the elder, his brother,
should make his peace with the King and recover his father's lands in England, in
which event he was to retain the vills of Winteringham and Coningsby, co. Lincoln,
Quinton, co. Gloucester, and Berwick, Sussex. On the following day William de
Harcourt was ordered to deliver the castle of Tamworth to him; but in 1220 it was
restored to Robert the elder. On 26 November 1224 his right to 5 hides of land in
Quinton, co. Gloucester, and to the manor of Berwick, Sussex, was acknowledged by
his half-brother Robert elder, to whom he granted 2 carucates of land in Coningsby.
On 21 May 1235 the Abbot of St. Michael in periculo maris in Normandy quitclaimed to
Robert Marmion and Avice his wife 2 carucates of land in Wath in the North Riding of
Yorkshire, they giving 40 marks of silver. On 12 May 1240 Gilbert de Gant
acknowledged Robert, Marmion's right to certain meadow and pasture in
Winteringham.

He married Avice, daughter of Gernegan, son of Hugh DE TANFIELD, through whom
he obtained Tanfield and several other manors of the Richmond fee. He died probably
in 1241, certainly before 23 October 1242. His widow was living in 1284. [Complete
